Apart from that, U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport was also brought online. Commuters in bus and van terminals, and piers and railway stations, can also enjoy the WiFi service.

“We recognize that road transport and public bus services remain the top mode of transportation for Thais. At the same time, we know the value of staying connected online even as people travel across the country. By bringing the fast and free WiFi service of Google Station nationwide to key transport hubs, we aim to help usher in equal digital opportunities to all Thais even while they are on the go,” says K Suryanarayana, Director of Partnerships for Google’s Next Billion Users initiatives.

CAT also recognizes the importance of Google Station - CAT WiFi, which is the collaboration between CAT and Google to provide Thais with convenient access to WiFi hotspots.

“As a national telecommunications service provider, CAT is honored to be entrusted by a global partner like Google and we believe that we could bring new opportunities for people across Thailand through a reliable and safe WiFi connection. Today CAT provides Google Station – CAT WiFi at up to 30/30 Mbs in over 100 sites across Thailand, covering community areas, airports, train and transit stations, piers, department stores, etc, and we will continue to extend the service to cover other areas of the country in order to make sure that the public benefit from it as much as possible,” says Colonel Sanpachai Huvanandana, President of CAT Telecom Public Company Limited.

Google Station has already served over two million people in Thailand since launch. In a day, Thais connect multiple times on Google Station and stay online for a total of almost two hours.

Apart from Thailand, Google Station has over 5,000 sites in 8 other countries -- Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Philippines and Vietnam -- and connects millions of people to free WiFi everyday. About Google Station Google Station, a cloud-based software that Google provides to ISPs and venues to assist in offering free, high-quality public WiFi, was initially available in key areas in Thailand like Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong), Khlong Toei Community, Nakornping Hospital (Chiang Mai), and Princess of Naradhiwas University. It was launched in July last year at the first Google for Thailand event where the company presented their Next Billion Users initiative to connect Thais to more opportunities through reliable internet access.
