CAT Joins Hands with Telecom Operators In Advanced Telecom Technology Development to Empower ICT Mega Projects in the Coming Era of Internet of Things

      Bangkok, TH: CAT Telecom Public Company Limited shared some Thai government’s ICT projects for which it would provide infrastructure support this year at Carriers World Asia 2016 Conference on Tuesday March 15, 2016. Besides, it also ensured potential partners, both domestic and global, successful business with its ever-developing advanced ICT networks and infrastructures, which include submarine cable systems, satellite platform, internet gateway, premium international call services, multi-location data centers and cloud solutions, and largest 3G coverage.

 

 

 

   According to Dr. Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, Executive Vice-President, Product Development, CAT Telecom, Thailand’s ICT spending in 2015 was approximately 21 billion USD, 3.8% above and accounted for 7% of total GDP. In 2016, with the projected growth of GDP at 0.6% from 2.9% last year, ICT spending is expected to rise along with the big shift in IT trends, including cloud computing, Internet of Things (ioT), big data analytics, etc.

      In response to proliferating data consumption and to support national digital economy framework, CAT is partnering with the government in launching ICT projects, some of them are highlighted as:


         • Broadband Development: providing public free Wi-Fi, broadband internet access in unprofitable areas, Wi-Fi network for schools, National Education Network (NEdNet), Government Information Network (GIN), etc. to serve useful and necessary data nationwide

 
        • National Infrastructure: a 20-billion-baht project funded by ICT Ministry aimed at bridging the gap between urban and rural areas with the provision of equal internet access covering 70,000 villages, equal to 93% of total villages in Thailand with low price and good quality

 
        • Smart City: setting Phuket as the first innovation-driven smart city by providing digital infrastructure and data center as well as applying Internet of Things network to promote digital-related investment and further development of tourism industry


        • Thailand One Map: consolidating and aligning government data base and information on land management from various parties to solve such problems as forest invasion, boundary conflicts, etc.
